Prefabricated Element is a fifteen minute composition in three movements for String Orchestra.
The first movement, rhythm of life and it focus is on rhythmic development and the continuation of rhythm by limiting pitch materials and intervals.
By excluding long melodic phrase, this movement focus is on the repetition and the variation of the rhythm.
The second movement, Melodious Sound, is based on the development of one single long melody.
The pitch material is from the subject of Fugue in B minor by J.S.Bach.
Along with the long main melody, the rhythmic motive from the first movement now becomes the background in the second movement. This rhythm eventually emerges from the shadows to become the climax of the movement. This represents the close relationship between melody and rhythm.
In the last movement, Inner harmony, all of the intervals and harmonic relationships are derived from the pitch material of the second movement.
The layers of intervals, harmonies, and sounds create the main character of the entire movement.
All three movements have their own dramatic character, technical challenges and different sense of music making, however, they are also very closely related to each other and join together to create a unified three movement composition.
